LIVING IN LITTLE VENICE: HAND-SORTED CLINKER BRICK SLIPS FOR PURISTIC ARCHITECTURE PROJECT ALONG THE CANALS OF LEIPZIG

No, Leipzig and in particular the very lively district of Plagwitz, cannot compare with Venice, but it does have in common that you can live directly next to the water here, too. The old trade fair city with its canals, river and the former open cast coal mines that have now become lakes, is increasingly developing into a "harbour city". But Leipzig also has so much more to offer. Apart from the Bach museum, Nikolaikirche and Völkerschlachtdenkmal, Leipzig now also recently has the Ströher clinker brick slips in puristic streamlined architecture to be admired.

Plagwitz was formerly the traditional working-class district in Leipzig. Then along came art and turned it into the cultural and performing arts area of the city. The development of the Karl-Heine canal area also certainly contributed to the rapid advancement, with large loft residences and town houses having been built with a mix of Wilhelminian architecture and new building style. A real eye-catcher in Plagwitz is Nonnenstraße 33. The unusual architecture here forms a contrast to the surroundings, and yet still fits in with old structures. But the clinker brick slips façade from Ströher is a highlight, too. The deliberately chosen architectural firing and hand-sorted brick slips set coloured accents on the facade, which integrate particularly harmoniously with the surroundings. This takes the harshness out of the consistent modern architecture and communicates a playful ease that is found throughout the entire residential area.
