Modern city living behind timeless clinker brick slip facade
Wilhelminian-style charm adorns "Residential Park of Superlatives"
A few months after its completion, the "Parkend" residential complex was included in the "FIABCI Prix d' Excellence Official Selection 2019", one of the most coveted awards for building projects - the "Oscar", so to speak, for particularly outstanding project developments in architecture. It is therefore no coincidence that the district in Frankfurt's Europaviertel (European Quarter) bears the nickname "Residential Park of Superlatives": embedded in an environment worth living in, living with the most modern comfort offers an extraordinarily high quality of life. The two multi-family buildings "Versailles Park" and "Louise-Marie-Park", completed in 2019, with a total of 105 exclusive apartments, blend into the "White City" with their pure southern exposure at the front of the park.
In terms of urban development, the residential area is distinguished by a harmonious, urban-elegant overall image. And the planning architects of Wentz & Co have succeeded here in doing what many new building complexes lack: Each of the 18 individual buildings has its own personal "face", its own style, with an individual facade design. At the same time, the superimposed approach of the facade architecture connects the individual buildings to form a harmonious, coherent ensemble.
With numerous projections and recesses, highlighted window reveals and balconies that are visually integrated into the building exterior, the two buildings present themselves as a modern adaptation of the popular Wilhelminian style facades. A further, architecturally harmonious bridge between tradition and modernity is provided by the selected mix of clinker and plaster surfaces on the facades.
The clinker brick slips from Ströher ground the plinth floors with a haptically appealing surface texture as well as a format and color mix in various gray-beige shades and accentuate effectively different facade areas. This is why the product name of the brick slips can be taken literally: The design potential of the clinker brick for individual facade architecture can be seen in different laying patterns and the combinations of different facing materials. And the brick slips prove that clinker brick is not at all outdated. It is without doubt a material with a great future.
