A traditional clinker brick look – with a progressive twist
gkk DialogGroup acquires future-proof office block at high-speed hub in Frankfurt's Ostend district
Whoever wonders where the world's largest Internet node is, might want to make note of this: Hanauer Landstraße in Frankfurt's Ostend district. The record data traffic registered here is an impressive 6.4 terabits per second. Consequently, there could hardly be a more fitting location for the new headquarters of an agency such as gkk Dialog. Why? Because this former call centre industry trailblazer has evolved into a digital communication expert – and today, with over 1000 employees, it is one of Germany’s leading dialogue marketing agencies.
The design concepts of the renowned Frankfurt architects Meixner, Schlüter and Wendt pursued their goals of integrating the free-standing, seven-storey office building with a usable area of 5350 m² harmoniously and naturally into the surroundings – while simultaneously giving the building a form of visual independence.
More than ever, following this high-profile move, the new Lindley quarter is considered as one of the top locations in Germany’s IT, marketing and communications sector. Moreover, just a stone's throw away from its previous headquarters, gkk’s new office cube currently combines traditional visual assets with state-of-the-art architectural language in a very subtle way.
The bold grid of the facade, designed with large window surfaces, is adorned with a traditional clinker brick look in timeless nuances of grey – at least at first glance. Up close, it becomes apparent that the surface has been “given a progressive twist”, emphasises Key Account Manager Tobias Rose, who was in charge of the Frankfurt project. "Our 'Kontur' brick slips are given a particularly expressive, modern look through carefully targeted accents: the so-called ‘contouring’. We combine the traditional art of clinker manufacturing with the latest glazing technology, thereby creating a new generation of clinker bricks. In this way, contour fascinates with its smooth slipware textures, distinctive water-struck surfaces, and fired and fusion effects", he continues.
The culture and corporate identity of this full-service agency are reflected in the building’s interior: all the letters in the word ‘Dialog’ are assigned a value, each of which designates a floor of the office complex. Therefore, visitors can access the following floors: Direkt [Direct], Integration, Augenhöhe [Eye Level], Leistung [Performance] and, on the fifth floor, something there can never be enough of: the Optimismus [Optimism] Level. Visually, the keyword of each individual floor, each of which houses open plan offices with large window surfaces and various recess and conference rooms, is expressed through quotes, pictures, illustrations and a variety of interactive elements.
